Chapter 1: My Top 10 Tech Essentials
As a tech enthusiast, I have a list of gadgets that I simply can't do without. Some of these are crucial for my work and studies, while others make my daily life easier and more enjoyable. Here’s my top ten, along with a bonus item!
Laptop
My top pick is undoubtedly my laptop. Being an Apple devotee, I rely on my MacBook Pro 13 for both work and study. What I appreciate most about it is the macOS, which I consider the finest Unix-based system tailored to my needs.
Currently, I’m contemplating an upgrade to benefit from the new M2 processor, evaluating whether to stick with the MacBook Pro or switch to the MacBook Air.
Smartphone
My smartphone is another essential tool for productivity. It allows me to read and respond to emails while commuting, serves as a contactless payment method at stores, and helps manage public transport fares seamlessly. I also use it for music (I’m a Tidal fan), ride-sharing apps, messaging platforms, banking, and more.
Currently, I use a Huawei Mate 20 Lite and don't have immediate plans for an upgrade, though I hope to find a smaller Android option in the future.
Headphones and Earbuds
While I’m not an audiophile, sound quality is important to me. I own several pairs of headphones, including the Sony WH-1000XM3, Audio-Technica ATH-SR6BT, and Shure SRH440, along with Xiaomi Mi AirDots, which I primarily use for running.
The Sony WH-1000XM3 is my go-to for commuting and work, while the Audio-Technica headphones are for home use, particularly when I want to savor music in high fidelity.
DAC/AMP
For those who appreciate high-fidelity music, a DAC/AMP is essential. I enjoy listening to music while working, and I like to catch every detail in the tracks. My portable DAC/AMP, the DragonFly Red from AudioQuest, works seamlessly with both my laptop and smartphone.
Smartwatch
As an avid runner, I’ve always used sports watches to monitor my heart rate and distance. Currently, I favor Garmin for my smartwatch needs.
I use the Garmin Venu SQ for daily health tracking and notifications, while the Garmin Forerunner 245 Music is dedicated to my running, providing specific workout metrics.
Tablet + Pen
My tablet is a daily tool for web research and note-taking, especially with OneNote. It serves as a second monitor and helps transfer photos when I travel. While I don’t watch movies on it, it fits many of my other needs perfectly.
Backpack
I prefer functional, high-quality backpacks over fashion bags. My bag is always stocked with my laptop, tablet, chargers, and other essentials.
Camera
Photography is a passion of mine, and I currently use a Sony Alpha 7i for family portraits and leisure shoots. It allows me to use vintage lenses, adding versatility to my photography.
Additionally, I have a Canon 250D for travel photography, known for its compact size and excellent battery life.
Powerbank
A powerbank is indispensable for my daily life, especially since my smartphone often runs low on battery. It’s a lifesaver during travel or busy days.
Portable Speaker
Although primarily used at home, my portable speaker enhances my daily routines, providing music while I work or relax.
Bonus: Travel Coffee Mug
Coffee fuels my day, and my travel mug ensures I always have it on hand, whether I’m working or on the go.
