Chapter 1: The Transformative Impact of the Internet

The Internet has fundamentally reshaped our existence, proving to be one of the most significant advancements in recent history. It enables us to connect with loved ones separated by vast distances, disseminate knowledge globally, and streamline our daily tasks such as bill payments and online shopping. The advantages are virtually limitless.

However, akin to any profound innovation, the Internet harbors a shadowy side. One of its troubling aspects is the alarming surge of hostility observed worldwide. It appears that many individuals, particularly the youth, are experiencing anger and frustration without justifiable reasons.

The Internet has empowered everyone, regardless of their expertise, to voice opinions on topics they may know little about. This newfound freedom makes it challenging to suppress misguided or unfounded viewpoints.

This situation reminds me of a classmate from my school days. Back when the Internet was just beginning to infiltrate households, we spent our evenings playing outside, a pastime that feels foreign to many today.

In our group, there was a person we dubbed Nyxen*. Nyxen often shared bizarre, often racist, and illogical thoughts that we would never endorse. Despite our attempts to discourage these notions, Nyxen continued to voice them.

For instance, if a national cricket team faced defeat, Nyxen would claim they were undeserving of victory due to the absence of players from a certain religion. During a game, if a bouncer was deemed a no-ball, Nyxen would argue that the batsman was too short. If their favorite team lost, they would dismiss the prize money's worth.

Nyxen's deep-seated resentment made it difficult for them to express gratitude or appreciation. Yet, they were aware of their isolation and felt increasingly disarmed.

With the advent of the Internet, Nyxen discovered a community of like-minded individuals worldwide—millions of them. This connection alleviated their loneliness and reignited their hatred, which had been waning.

Social media platforms granted them a newfound voice, allowing their ignorance and negativity to proliferate. Their daily satisfaction derived from posting critical comments became a new norm. Regrettably, individuals like Nyxen are becoming more prevalent and emboldened.

As those outside of this mindset, it is crucial for us to overlook their negativity and prevent it from stifling our creativity.
